Paul Wesley is ready to play Captain James T. Kirk if he gets a Star Trek spinoff, but he’s in no rush for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to end.

Paul Wesley would “one thousand percent” play Captain James T. Kirk if he got his own Star Trek series, but Wesley is in no rush whatsoever for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to end. Paul became the first actor since William Shatner to play James T. Kirk on television, but with a twist – Wesley has actually played 3 versions of Kirk on Strange New Worlds. Paul Wesley’s main role is as Lieutenant James T. Kirk on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which is the younger version who will eventually become the Captain Kirk played by William Shatner in Star Trek: The Original Series.

TrekMovie‘s Anthony Pascale caught up with Paul Wesley at the 51st annual Saturn Awards red carpet right before Wesley won the Saturn for Best Guest Star In a Television Series, which was the lone Saturn won by Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Asked about whether he would play Captain Kirk if he ever gets tapped to star in his own Star Trek series, Wesley said he’s ready but is happy where he is on Strange New Worlds. First of all, I would one hundred percent do a series regular starring role, one thousand percent. But I think Star Trek: Strange New Worlds , the pre [Kirk’s] Enterprise is so fascinating. It’s so well done. It’s a huge hit. Anson Mount is brilliant. I don’t think that show is going anywhere, I don’t want that show going anywhere anytime soon. I think it would be something that—who knows? Maybe it will happen, but I don’t think it would happen certainly any time in the next—I think there’s a long road to explore here with Strange New Worlds and I’m just really happy to be a part of it.

Saturn Award-winner Paul Wesley reaffirmed to TrekMovie that he is ready to become Captain James T. Kirk when the time comes: :

Paul Wesley confirmed to TrekMovie that he recurs as Lt. James T. Kirk in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, but it’s unclear how many episodes Wesley will appear in. Two versions of Paul Wesley’s Kirk were spotlighted in Strange New Worlds season 2: an alternate reality Captain Kirk who fell for Lt. La’an Noonien-Singh (and vice versa) in Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 3, “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow”, and Star Trek‘s Prime Universe Lt. Kirk, who appeared in 3 episodes, including Star Trek‘s first-ever musical, “Subspace Rhapsody.”

Paul Wesley’s Lt. James T. Kirk is the First Officer of the USS Farragut, but he has plenty of reasons to return to the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3. James has a budding romance with La’an, although he also has a pregnant girlfriend, Carol Marcus, who could appear in Strange New Worlds season 3. Kirk also has his older brother, Lt. Sam Kirk (Dan Jeannotte) to visit, as well as his newest friends, Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck) and Ensign Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding). But as Kirk learns the finer points of command to one day become a Captain, James still has plenty to learn from Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) and Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3.
