During season 4 of The Walking Dead, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) encountered a woman in the woods outside of the prison who made viewers take notice as it appeared walkers could talk. In “30 Days Without an Accident,” while checking the perimeter of the prison finds what he thinks is a walker eating a boar. Suddenly, the creature calls out to Rick.
Kerry Condon is the actress who portrayed Clara, the woman that looked like a walker, who was in the woods searching for food to take back to her camp. She begged Rick for help as she and her husband hadn’t eaten in days and wondered if they could join his camp. He gives her the little food he carried with him and tells her he has to ask her three questions and checks to see if she is armed.
As she leads Rick to their camp, Clara tells him that she and her husband were destined for their honeymoon when the outbreak occurred. Something appears off with this woman and Rick is watching their surroundings closely. As they arrive at the camp, she says, “Rick is going to help us,” an when Rick looks away, she lunges at him with a knife.
This is when it is revealed that her husband had become infected, and she kept his decapitated head because she couldn’t bear to be parted from him. She stabs herself in the abdomen and begs Rick to allow her to turn. Before she dies, she asks what Rick’s questions were, he asks them, discovering the only person she killed was herself. He asks the final question, “Why?” to which she replies, “You don’t get to come back from things.”
Clara’s reanimted form appeares in three episodes during the fourth season of the series.
