Walking Dead: What is The Book of Carol spinoff starring Melissa McBride?

Actress Melissa McBride is set to reprise her role as Carol Peletier in one of the new spinoffs in The Walking Dead universe. After portraying Carol in the main series for 12 years, McBride took a much-needed break but will now step back into Carol’s story.

AMC announced McBride’s return to TWDU for the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The upcoming season’s title has been altered to add the subtitle, The Book of Carol. Daryl Dixon is the fifth spinoff in TWDU, saw much success, and set records for viewership on the network’s streaming service AMC+. The Daryl Dixonseries is set and filmed in France, giving viewers a look at how another area of the world has faired since the outbreak. This setting is a fantastic backdrop that, amidst the destruction, still retains a romantic feel associated with France.

In the first season, viewers watched as Daryl (Norman Reedus) arrived in France and began a plan to return home. He encounters many new people, friends, and foes as he aids a resistance group called The Union of Hope. The first season ends with Daryl at a crossroads. He must decide whether to board a boat that would be his journey back to the US or stay and help his newfound friends.

The Walking Dead series concluded it’s story in November 2022, and Carol said her goodbyes to her best friend Daryl. She was established as a leader at the Commonwealth, and Daryl went in search of Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Michonne (Danai Gurira), and others who might be a good fit among the communities.

In the fifth episode of the first season of Daryl Dixon, in a flashback, Daryl reaches Carol via radio to check in and let her know he will return in a week. Soon after, Daryl is thrown onto the boat bound for France. During the season finale’s final scene, Carol is seen searching for Daryl in Maine, his last known location. It is no surprise that Carol began her search when he didn’t arrive in a week, as he promised.

This pair has a long history, and their story will continue in the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol spinoff that will premiere in 2024. It will be exciting to see what they experience apart, and hopefully, this series will give fans the long-awaited reunion between Carol and Daryl.
