Loki and Thor Reunion Tom Hiddleston

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Loki season 2, episode 6

Summary

  • Tom Hiddleston shares his thoughts on the complexities of a Thor/Loki reunion in the MCU, highlighting the difficulty of letting go of preconceived notions.
  • Both Thor and Loki have undergone significant character development since they last saw each other, making a future reunion complicated yet intriguing.
  • The potential reunion between Thor and Loki may occur in future MCU crossovers like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars as part of the Multiverse Saga. The sun may shine on them again.

In the wake of Loki season 2’s finale, actor Tom Hiddleston has shared what he’d like to see from an MCU reunion between Loki and his brother Thor. Having joined the TVA as a variant following the first Avengers film, this particular version of Loki has only ever seen what his relationship with Thor could have become. Likewise, Loki himself has become the new God of Stories with a major new role protecting the multiverse. As such, Hiddleston has acknowledged the complexity of what a family reunion between the Asgardian brothers would actually look like.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Tom Hiddleston spoke about the probability of his return to the MCU following Loki season 2’s finale. However, he also responded to the question about whether Loki and his brother will one day find each other again, revealing what he’d like to see from a Thor/Loki reunion which Marvel Studios seems interested in as well. To that end, it seems as though the Loki actor has given the idea a good amount of thought:

“I think both Thor and Loki have had to excavate and analyze the past and who they feel they really are and what they really want,” Hiddleston said. “But what’s interesting about family as well, this is just me thinking about it, is sometimes it will be difficult to let go of the preconception of who they used to be. Loki might be expecting Thor to behave in a certain way or be a certain way. Thor might be expecting Loki to be a certain way. So I think initially it would be really confusing, but also they’d been apart for a long time and no doubt they’ve been objects in each other’s mind. And so yeah, I think I wonder what a reunion would likely be, we’ll see.”

When Thor & Loki Could Reunite In The MCU’s Future

Thor and Loki in the MCU

Currently, Thor is traveling the galaxy with Love, his adopted daughter seen at the end of Thor: Love and Thunder. Having given up his throne at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Thor’s primary focus seems to be becoming the best father he can be while teaching Love how to be a hero. Conversely, Loki has finally gained a throne for the right reasons with a true “glorious purpose”, maintaining all the timelines and branches that made up the old Sacred Timeline which he’s turned into a multiversal tree, allowing them to grow with free will having been restored.

All things considered, Hiddleston is absolutely right that both Thor and Loki are in very different places compared to when they last saw each other. For Loki, it was while he was in the Avengers’ custody as an outright villain, while for Thor it was when Loki was killed by Thanos at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War, though the scope of the life Loki was meant to have on the Sacred Timeline was shown to him thanks to Agent Mobius and the TVA. Naturally, a future reunion between brothers would likely be quite complicated, at least until the preconceived notions of who they used to be are dropped as noted by Hiddleston himself.

Hopefully, Thor and Loki will be involved in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, both of which are expected to be the culmination of the entire Multiverse Saga. To that end, these big crossovers do seem like the most likely places for Loki and Thor to potentially reunite. With any luck, “the sun will shine on Thor and Loki again”, just as the former God of Mischief promised his brother before he died in Infinity War.
