Back in his prime, Mike Tyson was one of the most polarizing figures in the boxing world. His ferocious nature struck fear of god in the hearts of both his admirers and opponents alike. A simple Google search would reveal all the altercations ‘Iron’ Mike has had with many individuals. However, the group of people who often found themselves on the wrong end of Mike’s wrath, particularly in the public eye, were interviewers. Knowingly or unknowingly, these interviewers crossed the line with Mike, resulting in their altercation.
However, that was not the case in a resurfaced clip, where an interviewer questioned Mike Tyson about his basketball skills. The clip in question shows a young Mike in his prime playing Basketball. The clip transitions to the interviewer telling Mike, “I gotta tell you, you are one of the sorriest basketball players I have seen in my life.” Surprisingly, Mike’s response shocked the boxing world. “I know, I am horrible,” Mike responded humbly. As soon as the resurfaced clip started circulating on Instagram, people were quick to highlight the contrast in Mike’s behavior.
Reporter’s tone with Mike Tyson leaves fans in disbelief
Since the clip was posted a few weeks ago, it has gathered over 123K likes and a boatload of comments. While some remarked about Mike playing basketball, the majority of comments were about the interviewer’s bravery.
One user implied that the reporter was intentionally trying to get beat up. “Reporter trying to catch hands,” the user wrote.
Another user asserted that the interviewer was extremely close to getting knocked out by the ferocious Mike Tyson. “Somebody was this close to getting knocked out,” the user commented.
Someone else questioned who the interviewer was, suggesting it could be Braveheart. The user wrote, “Who was doing this interview?? BraveHart??”
The next user tried to explain why Mike Tyson had such a polarizing reputation by detailing Mike’s past. “What you expect that dude spent adolescence in and out of police stations, detention centers and when he was 13 dedicated his mind, body, and spirit to the art of war,” wrote the user.
One user highlighted that no one was guarding Mike in the clip while playing basketball. “Ain’t nobody guarding Mike,” the user commented.
Tyson’s infamous altercation with new anchor
In one of the most popular clips on social media, Mike Tyson got into a verbal altercation with CP24 Toronto News anchor Nathon Downer. The incident took place back in 2014 when Downer questioned Mike on how his past reputation would affect Toronto mayor Rob Ford. It’s worth mentioning that there was a race for Mayor around the corner back then.
In response to the question, Mike initially held back his anger and tried to brush it off. However, he could not help but make his feelings known to the anchor. “It’s so interesting because you seem like a nice guy, but you’re really a piece of s**t,” said Mike. Even though Downer tried to divert the conversation by questioning whether Mike was nervous about appearing in a Broadway show, Mike was not having it. “It’s more nerve-racking for me to hear us talking to a rat piece of s**t like you,” said Mike.
While Mike has transformed himself both personally and publicly, the resurfaced clip reveals a softer and gentler side of Mike even back then. Judging by the responses from the boxing world, it came as a massive surprise to them. What do you think about the interviewer in the resurfaced clip?
