Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Melissa Navia dropped a hilarious tease that season 3 could have a Muppet-themed episode. Long delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Strange New Worlds season 3 is gearing up to start production, with new episodes reportedly slated to film from December 2023 to June 2024. Of course, fans are wondering what “big swings” Strange New Worlds season 3 will take after season 2 pushed several boundaries and delivered Star Trek franchise firsts.
Responding to fans on Twitter/X suggesting Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 should turn the crew of the USS Enterprise into Muppets, Melissa Navia dropped an image of her character, Lt. Erica Ortegas as a Muppet. Check out her post below:
Of course, Melissa Navia is just joking, and the image of the Ortegas Muppet she shared is because the snarky Erica was dubbed Strange New Worlds‘ “Chaos Muppet” in season 1, and Navia has an image of it. After all, if Strange New Worlds season 3 does have a Muppet-themed episode, it would be kept a secret by Paramount+ to preserve the surprise.

Could A Strange New Worlds Season 3 Muppet Episode Work?
Other TV shows have successfully pulled off puppet episodes.
If Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 does have a Muppets episode, they have earned the benefit of the doubt that the show would make it work. Other TV series have successfully incorporated puppets. Angel, which was far from a comedy series, did a hilarious puppet episode in season 5. The Boys introduced a sad sack puppet of The Deep (Chace Crawford), and its college-set spinoff, Gen V, did a bloody slaughter fest puppet sequence in season 1.
Strange New Worlds‘ crossover with Star Trek: Lower Decks turned the USS Enterprise crew into animated characters.
Fans now expect Strange New Worlds to push the boundaries of what Star Trek can be. Strange New Worlds season 2 managed to work in a Vulcan comedy of manners, a crossover with Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Star Trek‘s first-ever musical episode, and they succeeded in breaking genres each time without jumping the shark. A Muppets episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds honestly would not be so far out of left field at this point and the idea of seeing Captain Christopher Pike and his crew as puppets is inherently funny.
