Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4’s finale shows the Golden Gate bridge twice, before and after Earth was attacked in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary
- The season 4 finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks features the Golden Gate Bridge in two different time periods, highlighting Earth’s previous attack in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
- The first appearance of the bridge is in a flashback to Starfleet Academy in 2368, while the second appearance shows it 13 years later, looking as new as ever.
- A researcher from Star Trek: Picard speculates that the bridge’s pristine condition in the future timeline is due to its reconstruction after the Breen attacked Earth in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4’s finale shows the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco in two different time periods, and it’s a reminder that Earth was attacked in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Lower Decks season 4’s final episode kicks off with a flashback to Starfleet Academy in 2368, right before the events of the Star Trek: The Next Generation season 5 episode, “The First Duty,” where the Golden Gate Bridge is visible in the background. When the bridge is seen again later in Lower Decks season 4’s finale, 13 years later, the iconic San Francisco landmark comparatively looks as good as new.
On Twitter/X, Jörg Hillebrand (@gaghyogi49), who was a researcher for Star Trek: Picard season 3, shared screencaps of the Golden Gate Bridge in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4’s finale, and he speculates that the bridge is shinier and cleaner because it was rebuilt after the Breen attacked Earth in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Check out his post below:
The Breen did the unthinkable and targeted Earth in the waning days of the Dominion War as seen in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 7.
Star Trek: Prodigy executive producer Aaron J. Waltke also reminds fans that the restored Golden Gate Bridge was seen at the end of Prodigy season 1, set a couple of years after Lower Decks season 4’s finale.
Earth Is A Paradise In Star Trek, But It Gets Attacked Regularly
The Terran homeworld has been targeted by the Federation’s enemies.
Earth is a paradise in Star Trek‘s future, but as the headquarters of the United Federation of Planets (based in Paris) and Starfleet (based in San Francisco), the Terran homeworld is a tempting target that has endured several alien attacks. Before the Breen laid siege to Earth in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Changelings infiltrated the planet and caused chaos. Earth weathered a combined attack by the Borg and the Changelings on Frontier Day at the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3. Romulan time travelers like Nero (Eric Bana) in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek‘s Kelvin Timeline and Sera (Adelaide Kane) in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 have even altered history.
Romulan temporal interference meant the birth of Khan Noonien-Singh, the Eugenics Wars, and World War III happened later in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Earth has been attacked multiple times by Star Trek: Discovery‘s 32nd century timeframe. One of the gravest threats Earth faced was from the Borg, who also time-traveled in order to assimilate humanity in the 21st century in Star Trek: First Contact. The Breen’s attack in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine took place six years before Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4, but evidently, Earth recovered and rebuilt the Golden Gate Bridge, restoring Sector 001’s primary planet back to its status as a paradise.
