The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live star Pollyanna McIntosh has teased what kind of situation Rick Grimes will find himself in during the upcoming spinoff. As established in the flagship series, Rick was taken by the CRM, and whisked away by a helicopter after McIntosh’s Jadis convinced her group he was worth saving. He has been a captive since then, while Jadis has gone on to become a high-ranking member of the massive group.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, McIntosh revealed The Ones Who Live‘s story will feature Rick in a situation unlike anything he’s faced before. The actor teased both action and love, alongside a new setting that still maintains the spirit of the franchise. Check out what McIntosh had to say below:
The setting and the locations are very different. The spirit is all there. I’d say it’s a lot of action, it’s a lot of pathos, and it’s a whole lot of love. Look at that! That’s a greeting card! But that’s what it is. And, to me, it’s very much in the spirit of the original. It’s just that we’ve never seen Rick in this situation before.
Rick Grimes Is Up Against His Biggest Challenge Yet
The Walking Dead‘s CRM is the largest group featured in the franchise so far, supporting tens of thousands of people within their militarized organization. This is further documented in World Beyond, where Jadis is revealed to be a warrant officer many years after capturing Rick. The group has a great amount of power, something that will make it difficult for Rick to go up against them on his own.
Luckily, Michonne is on her way to find him and bring him back to Alexandria, meaning he won’t have to face the new antagonists on his own. Even so, the two of them are bound to find trouble getting out of the CRM’s clutches. Perhaps the pair won’t escape right away, forced to endure life within the organization for a little while before finding the perfect moment to run.
With plenty of questions surrounding the CRM, The Ones Who Live may see Rick be part of the group for some time as he learns more about their history and operations. It’s possible his time there will allow him and Michonne to take them down from the inside despite their size. Mystery still abounds about the upcoming spinoff, but McIntosh’s words underscore just how different this next chapter of the franchise will feel.
