Random Ramsdom: Should LA have snagged Cooper DeJean over Braden Fiske?

Will the Los Angeles Rams regret not snagging Cooper DeJean in the latest NFL Draft? LA traded up, and some may say LA gave up too much, but regardless they made a move for Braden Fiske. In yesterday’s Random Ramsdom, I included a clip of Howie Roseman (Philedelphia Eagles General Manager) being elated that their franchise was able to land DeJean. I realize we may never have an answer, but I wondered if anyone out there thought LA should’ve snagged DeJean or someone else over Fiske?

Les Snead: Rams might try to get Aaron Donald to pull an Eric Weddle (nfl.com)

“On Thursday, Rams general manager Les Snead said on The Rich Eisen Show that if L.A. can make another Super Bowl run like it did in 2021, he might just call Donald to see if he’d consider joining the sprint.

“I did mention to Aaron that going back to our Super Bowl run, that there was a player by the name of Eric Weddle, who kind of jumped into the playoffs, and we signed him to the practice squad,” Snead said. “And we standard elevated him for four straight games to a Super Bowl championship. So, I did mention if we happen to get to the playoffs again, maybe we’ll circle back and see if the cup’s not quite filled. But that’s just a rumor. I doubt Aaron’s going to do that.”

3 Rams revelations from GM Les Snead that Rams fans will love to hear (ramblinfan)

“I love to take any and every opportunity to follow LA Rams General Manager Les Snead, because even when he doesn’t ‘spill the beans,’ over the team’s future strategy, he seems to drop nuggets of wisdom and the bread crumbs for what might be in the future. If you view his video press conferences, and pay attention to what Snead says and doesn’t say, you can get a lot of information from him by reading between the lines.

Les Snead is one of the savviest and shrewdest NFL strategists in the industry today. But while some NFL GMs have been known to sprinkle misinformation to mislead analysts and other teams, Snead does not sully himself with that nonsense. He simply knows where to draw the line of what can and cannot be shared safely. Still, he does have a way of confirming what the team may do by what he is and is not willing to discuss directly.”

Ramsdom Fandom: Anthony Goodlow UDFA profile (By Ferragamo15 on May 3, 2024)

“Blacklock disappointed in the pros and is currently a street FA. He had a 30.2 PFF grade as a rookie and the Texans dumped him in a trade after 2 seasons. He played 710 defensive snaps for them and has 40 tackles and 3 career sacks. Jonah Williams started 22 games for the Rams, had 1,035 defensive snaps and has 77 tackles and 2.5 sacks in his career. He’s currently with the Vikings. In 2023, Williams had a mediocre 55.6 PFF grade, better than any season Blacklock had as a pro. Who wins this head-to-head matchup, the early 2nd rd pick or the small school UDFA who was just a placeholder rotational backup for the Rams and a PS player who didn’t appear in a single regular season game his entire rookie season? Williams the UDFA wins. He turned out to be the more valuable player.

The Rams reportedly gave Goodlow a $20,000 signing bonus, more than twice as much as Omar Speights got. The Dallas Cowboys prioritized a TE named Brevyn Spann-Ford and lured him with a $20k signing bonus. The Bengals made LB a priority and paid their top 2 choices $15k each. The Eagles gave Andre Sam, a safety, a $20k bonus. The Jets gave Braiden McGregor a $20k bonus. The largest reported UDFA bonus I was able to find was Jalen Coker getting a $25k bonus from the Carolina Panthers. So, Goodlow’s bonus was likely one of the largest amounts paid out this year, a sign that the Rams really wanted him and believe that he has a strong chance at making the final roster. Right off the bat, it is clear that Goodlow wasn’t just an average UDFA, he was a “priority” UDFA. He’s like an “8th round” draft pick.”
