Mike Tyson, The renowned American former professional boxer gained significant popularity for his portrayal in the movie The Hangover. However, the most interesting part is that except for him, every other cast member was familiar with his cameo. Fans often heard him talk about not being prepared for the spotlight.
In that phase of his life, drugs, and alcohol stole all the spotlight in the former boxer’s life. For that, The former heavyweight champion often found himself unconscious of his surroundings. Interestingly, Mike Tyson has no memory of landing the role in The Hungover. The only thing Tyson can recollect is a memory Involving Elizabeth Olsen’s Sister Ashley Olsen.
Mike Tyson’s Unconscious Odyssey into The Hangover
For any actor Taking a role in any movie franchise is quite a big step in the Hollywood industry. But in this case, the story is quite the opposite. Mike Tyson, the American Boxer, found himself totally unconscious regarding landing the role in The Hangover. Mike Tyson told (via The Independent),
“And I didn’t know as I was drinking and smoking back then, doing drugs so I didn’t know I was involved in the movie. So eventually I had to go and do the movie and it was a success.”
Starring in a big franchise like The Hangover was a total mystery to him. Tyson’s lack of recollection regarding his agreement to star in the movie stems from a time when he was deeply grappled with substance abuse. His focus and attention were consumed by drugs.
Mike Tyson starred in The Hungover with his fellow actors including Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, and Ed Helms. Interestingly, Tyson’s 2009 The Hangover cameo paid back as it is one of the funniest movies till now. In a twist of fate, the outcome shines bright. The Hangover soared to great heights at the box office and received worldwide acclaim as well.
Mike Tyson’s Puzzling Memory About The Hangover
In Todd Phillips’s The Hangover script, Mike Tyson held a vital role. But the former boxer didn’t know about this fact as Phillips directly approached Tyson’s manager about the role. The other reason for his unfamiliarity with the fact was his ongoing battle with the addiction to drugs and alcohol. However, amid Tyson’s absent-mindedness, he clearly remembered one particular incident related to the film. Mike Tyson told The Hollywood Reporter,
“Somebody had told me something about a movie, but I wasn’t coherent as to what he was talking about. They made it sound like it was low-budget, not a serious movie.”
This incident took place at a cheesy club in Caesars Palace, Vegas. Before starting the shoot, some cast members were celebrating Nick Cannon‘s birthday party at that club. At the party, Justin Bartha, who played Doug’s character in the film, suddenly cheered out loud to acknowledge the presence of Mike Tyson. In a twist of irony, Tyson was completely unfamiliar with these individuals.
Interestingly, the one thing he remembered about that party was the presence of Elizabeth Olsen’s Sister Ashley Olsen, who was romantically involved with Bartha at that time. Tyson told The Hollywood Reporter,
I didn’t know who they were. But I noticed one of the Mary-Kate sisters.
Notably at that party, the cast members gave him some knowledge about landing a role in the film The Hangover, which he was totally unaware of. But Tyson was still struggling with the unsettled concept of that movie until he reached on set with other casts.
