Summary

  • Jeri Ryan believes Star Trek: Picard season 3 was some of her best work playing Seven of Nine, thanks to the excellent writing for the character.
  • Seven’s character arc has been remarkable, starting as a Borg and ending up as the Captain of the Enterprise-G.
  • Star Trek: Picard season 3 was a success, bringing back the crew of TNG and showcasing Seven’s growth.

Jeri Ryan praises Star Trek: Picard season 3’s writers for bringing out the best in her and her iconic character, Seven of Nine. Ryan joined Star Trek: Voyager as Seven of Nine in season 4, and she appeared in 100 episodes of the Kate Mulgrew-led series as the reclaimed Borg heroine. 19 years after Voyager ended, Ryan returned as Seven in Star Trek: Picard, appearing in 25 of the series’ 30 episodes. Through it all, Seven has experienced a remarkable character arc, culminating in becoming Captain of the USS Enterprise-G at the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3.

At the red carpet of the 51st annual Saturn Awards, TrekMovie caught up with Jeri Ryan, who won the Saturn for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series. Ryan agreed with TrekMovie’s question that Star Trek: Picard season 3 marked her best work as Seven of Nine, and gave credit to showrunner Terry Matalas and his team of writers. Read her quote below:

I think it was some of my best work as this character because we had some of the best writing as this character. I’ve been so lucky. She’s had such an arc over the years, starting out not even human 20-something years ago, and to end up as the captain of the Enterprise was pretty big character growth.

Jeri Ryan won her second Saturn for playing Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Picard season 3. Ryan also won the Saturn for playing Seven on Star Trek: Voyager.

Star Trek: Picard season 3 was a huge hit as it reunites the crew of TNG, but is it possible Jean-Luc and friends could return for season 4?

Will Jeri Ryan Return To Star Trek As Seven Of Nine?

Seven of Nine’s future is tied to Picard getting a Star Trek: Legacy spinoff

Jeri Ryan never anticipated Seven of Nine’s story would end with her becoming Captain of the Enterprise and joining legends like Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), and Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) in the center seat of Starfleet’s flagship. Star Trek: Picard season 3’s ending set up an enticing future following Captain Seven’s new voyages leading the USS Enterprise-G, but those adventures are halted by the fact that there is no Picard spinoff in development at Paramount+.

Star Trek fans and Picard ‘s actors like Jeri Ryan and Todd Stashwick, as well as showrunner Terry Matalas and his writing team, continue to advocate for Star Trek: Legacy online.

Whether Jeri Ryan plays Seven of Nine again is tied to Star Trek: Legacy happening, especially since that proposed series would specifically be about Seven as the Captain of the Enterprise-G. Ryan could certainly voice Seven in animated series like Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy, but both of those shows are set before the events of Star Trek: Picard. Thankfully, Jeri Ryan is game to return if Star Trek: Picard‘s spinoff happens to add to her legacy of award-winning work as Seven of Nine.
