- These Enterprise-esque ships are part of the Scourge’s plan to gather its forces and create its own armada, led by Domina Tagge’s flagship.
- The appearance of ships resembling the Enterprise in Star Wars is not a crossover, but rather a passing resemblance in design and an interesting nod to both franchises.
Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #38A new Star Wars comic features ships that look remarkably like Star Trek’s Enterprise. As seen in Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics’ ongoing Dark Droids crossover, the sentient droid virus known as The Scourge has been building up its forces by corrupting droids across the galaxy and merging them into its hivemind, though it’s also looking for ways to corrupt organics as well. To that end, a new fleet has emerged in the Star Wars canon through Marvel’s connected Doctor Aphra series, and the similarities to The Enterprise are quite striking.
As seen in Doctor Aphra #38 from Alyssa Wong and Minkyu Jung, the titular rogue archaeologist attempts to learn more about the Scourge who’s plaguing the galaxy and its imminent plans to claim both “the meat and the metal”. Entering its mind through her handy electro-tattoos, Aphra discovers that the Scourge has seemingly gained control over an entire fleet with each of these ships looking quite similar to Star Trek’s most classic starship:
While not perfect recreations, it certainly looks as though these new ships might have been inspired by the iconic Enterprise in their initial design. However, it doesn’t appear as though the respective Star Wars and Star Trek franchises will be crossing over any time soon.
How To Watch Star Wars Movies In Order
Here is how to watch all Star Wars movies and TV shows, both chronologically and by release date, and how the Star Wars timeline works.
The Scourge Is Gathering Its Forces
The ships seen during Aphra’s connection with the Scourge appear to be part of the virus’ plans to have its own armada. Likewise, It’s notable that these Enterprise-esque fighters are being led by Domina Tagge’s flagship, suggesting that these ships are something the powerful Tagge Corporation has been holding back, or a brand-new design the Scourge plans to use in the near future. Either way, the issue ends with the confirmation that the Scourge has corrupted Tagge and her company for its own ends, and that likely includes these new starfighters.
The Rebel Alliance and Imperials have always had their own distinct models such as their respective X-Wings and TIE fighters. It’s known that Tagge has plenty of experimental tech and prototypes, so it’s more than likely these ships are intended to be radically different (with no actual ties to the Star Trek franchise itself). This will help make the Scourge’s forces even more distinct when and if a major space battle ensues in the imminent finale of Dark Droids.
The Enterprise Has Appeared Before in Star Wars Canon and Legends
Interestingly enough, The Enterprise has made Star Wars cameos in both canon and non-canon material now known as Legends. In The Phantom Menace, a ship looking remarkably like the classic Star Trek cruiser is briefly seen in the background flying through the busy traffic of Coruscant during a conversation between Queen Amidala and Senator Palpatine. Likewise, the same is true in the non-canon Star Wars Tales #4 with a cameo that is undoubtedly The Enterprise, complete with its official designation in the Star Trek universe NCC-1701. However, it seems as though these new Star Wars ships in Doctor Aphra simply have a passing resemblance Star Trek’s premiere exploratory vessel.
