What’s Next For The John Wick Franchise?
The fourth installment in the long-running action franchise was a major hit, reaching new heights for the series critically and commercially. Despite this, however, the future of the franchise remains somewhat up in the air. John Wick: Chapter 4‘s ending features Wick seemingly succumbing to his wounds, but there remains a hint of ambiguity regarding whether he is truly dead.
For his part, Reeves, according to franchise producer Basil Iwanyk, wanted Wick’s death to be definitive in the latest sequel, a result of these movies being incredibly physically taxing to make. Director Chad Stahelski, however, who has helmed every installment in the franchise, has been more open-ended about whether the franchise could continue, revealing that he and Reeves would both return for John Wick 5, but only if they can find a story worth telling.
Lionsgate executive Joe Drake recently confirmed that a John Wick 5 script is being written, and the quality of this script will seemingly determine whether Reeves and Stahelski return.
Outside of the main saga, the John Wick universe is set to further expand whether Reeves returns or not.
