While the future of Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains unclear, a frontrunner has emerged as a rumored name eyed to replace Jonathan Majors.
Previously, Kang was played by Majors in the MCU, and the plan was for the actor to reprise the role for the upcoming film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. After Majors was found guilty by a jury on charges of assault and harassment of a former lover, he was fired from his role as Kang. It’s not yet known if Marvel Studios will recast the role with a new actor playing Kang, but according to film scooper Daniel Richtman, acclaimed actor Colman Domingo has been eyed as a potential replacement for Majors as Kang.

“Fear the Walking Dead’s” Colman Domingo Discusses Victor Strand’s Survival Strategy
This has not been verified, and for now, it’s best to treat the rumor with a grain of salt. With that noted, the rumor is quickly getting attention online as fans discuss the idea of Domingo in the role. The actor is best known to Walking Dead fans for his role as Victor Strand in the first spinoff series, Fear the Walking Dead, which just recently wrapped up its run, freeing up Domingo’s schedule in a big way. He also impressed critics with his acclaimed role in the Netflix movie Rustin, which earned Domingo a Golden Globe Award. Domingo would also win a Primetime Emmy Award for his guest role on HBO’s hit series Euphoria. Currently, Domingo can be seen in the new musical film The Color Purple, and he also did voiceovers for the recently released films Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.
Will Kang Return in the MCU?
Domingo’s potential casting can only happen if Marvel Studios execs decide to keep Kang around in the MCU. It’s possible that the character will be scrapped, as some reports have suggested, in favor of replacing him with another supervillain in the Avengers movies. The issue is that many questions would be left behind if Kang’s story wasn’t resolved in some fashion, especially after the events of Loki Season 2. Be that as it may, it’s been reported that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is getting referred to internally at Marvel as simply Avengers 5, so it’s possible that the character could return to have his story concluded while still having his presence in the Avengers sequels diminished.
No, Marvel Studios Doesn’t Need To Explain a Potential Kang Recast
The MCU has to deal with the fallout of Jonathan Majors’ real-life court case, with the character being recast, there is no need for an explanation.
Time will have to tell what ultimately becomes of Kang in the MCU, but Avengers 5, penned by Michael Waldron, will be released in theaters on May 1, 2026.
