Three Philadelphia Flyers prospects are set to face off against each other in their first game of the CHL Memorial Cup—Denver Barkey and Oliver Bonk will be representing the London Knights, while Alexis Gendron will be on the other side of the ice with Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Three Philadelphia Flyers prospects are set to face off against each other in their first game of the CHL Memorial Cup—Denver Barkey and Oliver Bonk will be representing the London Knights, while Alexis Gendron will be on the other side of the ice with Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Both the Knights and the Voltigeurs punched their ticket to the Memorial Cup by sweeping their championship series’, with all three Flyers prospects contributing significantly to their teams’ success in the playoffs. In 18 games, Barkey recorded six goals and 21 assists, while Bonk has seven goals and nine assists. In a 15-game stretch, Gendron has 11 goals (including a hat trick) and eight assists.

All three prospects have signed their entry-level contracts with the Flyers, while the Flyers GM Danny Briere has specifically talked about integrating Bonk and Barkey into their long-term rebuild plans. Briere said both players are expected to spend another year with the Knights, but if the Knights continue their postseason dominance during the Memorial Cup, it will certainly be a positive sign for the Flyers’ front office.

This tournament will also be an excellent chance for Gendron to impress the front office, as he’s had to sit out part of this past season with an injury. While other Flyers prospects (with the exception of Matvei Michkov) have largely fallen into the shadow of Bonk and Barkey’s star performances with the Knights, Gendron has an opportunity to pull himself out of his slump and impress the Flyers’ brass.

The Memorial Cup will continue until June 2.
