Warning: contains spoilers for Star Trek #13!Star Trek has officially named its most dangerous planet in the galaxy. The Star Trek universe is full of hostile worlds, be they uninhabitable to human life or full of deadly adversaries. Now, as the second year of IDW’s flagship Star Trek title begins in issue 13, Captain Sisko and the crew of the Theseus have a new and deadly mission, one that will take them to the most dangerous planet in the quadrant.
Star Trek #13 is written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly and drawn by Marcus To. Starfleet has dispatched the Theseus to the Tzenkethi home world to investigate why the hostile and xenophobic race are building new ships and bases. Sisko and his crew are to meet with a Starfleet operative named “Kingsnake,” revealed to be Harry Kim. There is no time for reunions, as Kim warns them that for anyone wearing a Starfleet uniform, this is the most dangerous planet in the galaxy. On cue, a small group of Tzenkethi warriors attack.
The Tzenkethi Are the Biggest Star Trek Bad Guys Never Seen On Screen
The Tzenkethi currently represent the biggest threat to the security of the Alpha Quadrant. First mentioned, but never seen, on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the Tzenkethi are unlike other races encountered by Starfleet and the Federation. The Tzenkethi, as seen in this issue, are reptilian, resembling space dinosaurs. Their ships are unique too: three times the size of a Federation ship and seemingly made of stone as well. These key differences have led to tension between the Federation and the Tzenkethi, tensions that are about to boil over and cause another galactic war, one the Federation cannot win.
Anywhere the Tzenkethi Go Is Dangerous
Truthfully, anywhere Starfleet goes in Tzenkethi space will be dangerous. The planet Captain Sisko and the Theseus crew beam down to is actually a moon of the Tzenkethi home world, but one that is inhabited. Harry Kim had been working out of a base on the moon for months, watching and observing the Tzenkethi consolidate their power. Kim’s reports, seen in a text piece in this issue, are harrowing and paint the Tzenkethi in a terrifying light. Kim knows first hand what the Tzenkethi are capable of, and it frightens him. Harry Kim knows that Sisko and his compatriots are in for the fight of their lives.
The issue ends on a cliffhanger, as Tzenkethi raiders attack Captain Sisko, Harry Kim and the rest. The Tzenkethi seen in this issue are fierce looking, armed with both stone clubs and high-tech weaponry, and looking to kill any Starfleet officer who gets in their way. Sisko, Kim and the crew of the Theseus must rely on every trick in the book if they wish to turn back the Tzenkethi, whose home world Star Trek has described as the “most dangerous in the galaxy.”
