Star Trek: Discovery series lead Sonequa Martin-Green promises season 5 and the series will end with a “beautifully culminating” finale. Discovery season 5 is the final season of the flagship Star Trek on Paramount+ series, where Captain Michael Burnham and the USS Discovery will embark on a hunt for “the greatest treasure in the known galaxy,” said to be an ancient power kept dormant for centuries. Prior to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, reshoots were completed to turn Star Trek: Discovery season 5’s ending into a proper series finale.
As reported by Trek Brasilis and TrekMovie, Sonequa Martin-Green and Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Michelle Paradise took part in CCXP’s Paramount+ panel in Brazil. Along with announcing Star Trek: Discovery season 5’s April 2024 premiere and presenting an action-packed new clip from the final season, Martin-Green and Paradise spoke at the Q&A about how Star Trek: Discovery ending will be “satisfying” “in the best way”. Check out their quotes below:
Sonequa Martin-Green: Michelle and the team put together an addendum shoot that Paramount+ and CBS Studios allowed us to do. And so we went back and wrapped it up. When you see it, it is beautifully culminating… I really believe it was satisfying. It really ties up really well.
Michelle Paradise: We did not know going into season 5 that it would be our final season. We found out after we were done shooting the season. So thankfully, Paramount+ and CBS Studios gave us the ability to go back and shoot some additional scenes. So really, at that point, it was about wrapping it up in the best way and having it feel wonderful for all of the people who love Star Trek.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is the final season of Paramount+’s flagship series, and here’s everything we know about Captain Burnham’s last voyages.
What We Know About Star Trek: Discovery Season 5’s Ending
Discovery will end with a two-part finale.
Although details are being tightly kept under wraps, there is some information about Star Trek: Discovery season 5’s finale. Discovery will conclude with a two-part series finale. The first half was directed by Jonathan Frakes, who came aboard the series in season 2 and considers Discovery to be his “home” Star Trek series. The final episode of Star Trek: Discovery was directed by executive producer Olatunde Osunsanmi, and he oversaw the reshoots to wrap up the entire series.
Star Trek: Discovery season 5 adds three new major characters: L’ak played by Elias Toufexis, Moll played by Eve Harlow, and Captain Rayner played by Callum Keith Rennie.
At CCXP, Sonequa Martin-Green and Michelle Paradise both confirmed Jonathan Frakes earlier comments that Star Trek: Discovery‘s cast and crew didn’t know season 5 would be the final season while they were in production, meaning they were taken by surprise when Paramount+ canceled the series in March 2023. Regardless, Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is highly anticipated as the final voyages of Captain Michael Burnham’s USS Discovery, and it is Paramount+’s biggest Star Trek event slated for 2024.
