Star Trek: Voyager‘s Robert Duncan McNeill hilariously forgot many aspects of his show, including that Voyager began with a 2-hour series premiere. As Lt. Tom Paris, McNeill was a series regular on Star Trek: Voyager, and he was even listed as number 2 on the call sheet beneath Kate Mulgrew, who starred as Captain Kathryn Janeway. McNeill appeared in all 7 seasons of Star Trek: Voyager as Tom Paris, the cocksure helmsman of the Intrepid Class USS Voyager during its long journey to Earth from the Delta Quadrant.
In 2020, Robert Duncan McNeill and his Star Trek: Voyager co-star, Garrett Wang, who played Ensign Harry Kim, launched The Delta Flyers podcast where they reviewed every episode of their series. In The Delta Flyers debut episode, McNeill watched Star Trek: Voyager‘s 2-part premiere, “Caretaker,” and he amusingly had forgotten numerous aspects of the show, including that they filmed an extra long episode. Read McNeill’s quote and watch his reaction in The Delta Flyers video (about 12 minutes in) below:
I still have a half-hour of this. I’ve already watched an hour, and there’s another half hour? I didn’t know we made an hour and a half pilot. It’s so long!
Star Trek: Voyager‘s pilot, “Caretaker,” was split up into two episodes, Part 1 and Part 2, but with commercials, they amount to hour-long episodes.
Star Trek: Voyager Cast & Character Guide
In its seven seasons, Star Trek: Voyager introduced many new faces to the Trek universe. Here is a breakdown of the show’s main cast and characters.
Tom Paris & Voyager Have Made Star Trek Comebacks
Robert Duncan McNeill even reprised his Star Trek: The Next Generation villain.
20+ years after it ended, Star Trek: Voyager is held in such esteem by the creatives behind the current Star Trek on Paramount+ series that most of Voyager‘s characters have made comebacks, including the USS Voyager itself. Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) was a lead character in Star Trek: Picard, eventually rising to become Captain of the USS Enterprise-G. Kate Mulgrew headlines Star Trek: Prodigy, first by playing Hologram Janeway before reprising Admiral Kathryn Janeway. The Doctor (Robert Picardo) will soon join Janeway in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 when it premieres on Netflix in 2024.
The USS Voyager was seen docked in the Fleet Museum on Athan Prime in Star Trek: Picard season 3, and it was back in action in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4’s premiere.
Robert Duncan McNeill made his comeback as Lt. Tom Paris in the Star Trek: Lower Decks season 2 episode, “We’ll Always Have Tom Paris.” McNeill made a surprise return in Lower Decks season 4, but this time, he reprised his original Star Trek: The Next Generation villain, disgraced ex-Starfleet Cadet Nicholas Locarno. With Star Trek: Prodigy essentially a stealth sequel to Star Trek: Voyager, the possibly exists that McNeill could reprise Tom Paris in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 as well.
