New Marvel Cinematic Universe gives Jon Bernthal’s Punisher a bloody and comic-accurate costume, imagining what it could look like on Daredevil: Born Again. Following Netflix’s Daredevil TV show, Matt Murdock is getting another chance to lead an MCU TV show as he is set to star in Daredevil: Born Again for Disney+ and Marvel Studios. While it won’t serve as Daredevil season 4, Daredevil: Born Again will continue the adventures of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen as part of Phase 5.
Daredevil: Born Again will see Bernthal’s Punisher return to screens, after being last seen in his own Netflix show that got canceled after two seasons. As the world speculates on how Frank Castle will factor into the series, graphic artist Arkin Tyagi shared artwork of Bernthal’s MCU character donning a more comic-accurate suit.
Tyagi shared how they would love to see a “classic back to basics Punisher in the MCU,” stating that he used “90’s anime aesthetic” when designing a more old-school look for Bernthal. Frank’s original Punisher costume came to life at the end of Daredevil season 2, serving as a setup for Bernthal’s spinoff show.
Why Punisher’s MCU Introduction Is More Exciting Now Than Ever
Daredevil: Born Again season 1 recently went through a massive overhaul as Marvel Studios decided to fire the writers and remaining directors as production has been on pause ever since the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, with the latter still being in effect. As Marvel Studios is going in a new direction for Daredevil: Born Again (and future MCU TV shows), Dario Scardapane was hired as the new official showrunner. As promising as this may be for Daredevil: Born Again, it is also a positive for Punisher’s larger MCU return, as Scardapane worked on Bernthal’s Marvel TV show on Netflix, meaning a writer who is already familiar with this version of the character will be in charge.
Not only will Daredevil: Born Again have a showrunner who knows how to work with Punisher, but Bernthal’s MCU return is happening right as Marvel Studios is finally starting to enter a similar territory to the Marvel shows on Netflix. The first Echo trailer confirmed the show’s TV-MA setting, as it had a lot more blood and violence compared to other MCU projects. In addition to that, the Blade reboot movie was confirmed to be R-rated, meaning that Marvel Studios could very well be willing to show the gruesome side of Punisher through Daredevil: Born Again.
