If the Red Sox truly want to compete, they’ll need someone who can handle the ninth inning. While Jansen has proven he can handle that role, new Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow seems open to shaking things up. It may hurt their bullpen, but if it helps Boston become a better team, Breslow seems open to it.

Jansen appeared in 51 games in his debut with Boston. He made 29 saves. While putting up a 3.63 ERA and a 52/17 K/BB ratio. Over his 14-year MLB career, Jansen has made 420 saves with a 2.52 ERA and a 1,159/243 K/BB ratio. He is four-time All-Star and a World Series champion.

Boston has been both buyers and sellers this offseason. They’ve brought in Tyler O’Neill and Lucas Giolito while trading away Chris Sale. The franchise is entering a new era post-Chaim Bloom. And Breslow is making the requisite moves that he believes will put the Red Sox back on top.

Kenley Jansen was a valuable resource for Boston in his first year with the team. But with the Red Sox having a playoff appetite, he could be the next player Boston decides to trade away.
