Mike Tyson is about to be on Francis Ngannou’s corner when the Cameroonian fighters faces Tyson Fury at the end of October. He is always speaking to various media outlets and through his own podcast as well. Leading up to this fight, he recently gave The Daily Mail an interview where he discussed the upcoming fight. However, one of the questions he was asked took us fans down memory lane. This was back when Tyson was considered the baddest man on the planet and he is still considered the scariest puncher in boxing history. His first defeat came against Buster Douglas but before that, he truly was a force to be reckoned with.
During the interview, he was asked which one of all the brutal knockouts he delivered is his favorite. One can pick from a wide variety of many great moments in his career, but there is one that has a special place in his heart. It’s the KO he gave to Larry Holmes, the man who knocked out the legendary Muhammad Ali. Tyson was on a mission to avenge the boxer he has admired the most. Here’s what Mike said on that interview: “What would you say your proudest knockout was throughout your career? Well, it was against Larry Holmes because he beat Muhammad Ali six years earlier. I was crying and said I’m going to avenge Ali.”
Mike Tyson’s admiration and respect for Muhammad Ali
Every single time you ask Mike Tyson who his favorite boxer ever was, he will every time mention Muhammad Ali. The level of admiration and respect he has for the late champ is unparallelled. In fact, they were good friends when Ali was still alive and shared many great moments together. Tyson is a boxing scholar who always loved studying the sport and the greatest to ever do it. So when he talks about Ali, his analysis is coming from a man who has seen every single fighter who ever lived. Even of that means watching videos from before he was born.
