Necas had a goal and four points in a 7-3 win over Sweden.
Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas hasn’t had the chance to represent his home country since 2018.
So when he had the chance to not only don the Team Czechia jersey once again, but do so in his home country, it was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.
Less than 48 hours after the Canes were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs, Necas was in Czechia and was lacing them up alongside his fellow countrymen.
And what a difference he has made.
Necas has been skating on a line with fellow NHLers David Kampf and Dominik Kubalik and while he was good in his first two games, once the stakes were raised, Necas really took it to another level.
Following Team Czechia’s 1-0 win over Team USA, Necas was a gamebreaker in the semifinal against Team Sweden.
Necas registered three assists and scored the game-winning goal en route to a four-point night.
Now, for the first time since 2010, the Czechs will be playing in the World Championship Final against either Canada or Switzerland.
With Necas’ future in Carolina extremely shrouded in uncertainty, it’s good for him to have the opportunity to step away and instead live it up at home as a hero.
