This series is highly anticipated by TWD fandom as it will see the return of Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira as Rick and Michonne. Is this series is sequel to The Walking Dead?
The Ones Who Live will see Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead universe, as showrunner who, along with Lincoln and Gurira, developed the series. These three executive produce with TWD veterans Denise Huth and Brian Bockrath.
The new series is considered a spinoff, the sixth in TWDU that is described as a continuation of the epic love story of Rick and Michonne. The two have been separated for years but have never given up hope of reuniting.
Fans are excited about this series, as many have longed for the return of these two characters. The Ones Who Live will also see a significant focus on the CRM (Civic Republic Military), the ones who assisted Jadis/Anne in taking her and Rick away after he was blown clear from the bridge blast in season 9. Pollyanna McIntosh will reprise her role as Jadis, who was last seen in another spinoff, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, as Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes.
Other announced cast members include Terry O’Quinn as Major General Beale of the CRM, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Pearl Thorne, and Matthew Jeffers as Nat.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premiere date
AMC and AMC+ will premiere The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live on February 25, 2024. The series will contain six episodes, as do all first seasons in TWDU, and it is possible that this series will only be one season long. This hasn’t been confirmed by AMC, but comments made in interviews allude to a single season.
Viewers have wondered what has happened to Rick since he never returned to his family, and in a bonus scene of The Walking Dead series finale, it was revealed that Rick tried to escape the CRM at least once, but was recaptured. The fact that he hasn’t been used as a test subject is a vital piece of information, along with the fact that he was called Consignee Grimes by the helicopter pilot who located him after his escape. He has likely proven himself to the organization, and they realized he could be an asset.
