The New York Rangers won in dramatic fashion once again.

After basically getting dominated throughout the eternity of Game 3, the Rangers still found a way to squeeze out a narrow 5-4 overtime victory against the Florida Panthers to take a 2-1 series lead in the Eastern Conference Final.

The Rangers were coming off an emotional 2-1 overtime win at Madison Square Garden, but the series was shifting to Florida.

Sam Reinhart scored minutes into the contest to give Florida a quick 1-0 lead. The Panthers were skating circles around the Rangers through the beginning stages of the game, and New York just looked lackadaisical.

However Alexis Lafrenière responded with a beautiful backhand breakaway goal of his own followed seconds later by a goal from Barclay Goodrow, who has been on fire as of late.

All of the sudden, the Rangers held a 2-1 lead.

Despite committing three penalties and basically holding little possession time, the score was 2-2 after 20 minutes of play, so the Rangers had reasons to be happy.

In the second period it was more of the same story. Florida was the more dominant team, but Igor Shesterkin made some big saves to keep the Panthers scoreless in the period.

Meanwhile, Lafrenière was at it once again, scoring a toe-drag goal, a play that only superstars really have the ability to make.

When the Rangers were shorthanded for a total of four minutes at the end of the second period, the team stood tall and Goodrow tallied his second goal of the game while on the penalty kill.

Everything was falling into place for the Rangers, until it all went crashing down.

Down by two goals, the Panthers came into the third period with a vengeance and New York’s lead quickly evaporated and the game was in Florida’s hands.

They spent practically the entire period in the Rangers’ defensive zone taking shot after shot and generating a multitude of high quality scoring chances.

Shesterkin got into the zone and refused to allow the Panthers to pull ahead. He really bailed out the Rangers and saved his team.

The Panthers were peppering shots on Shesterkin, yet they struggled to figure out the hot goaltender who was seemingly unstoppable.

By the will of Shesterkin, the Rangers managed to limp their way into overtime.

After Shesterkin made a couple clutch saves to start the overtime, Alex Wennberg tipped the puck past Sergei Bobrovsky, propelling the Rangers to an improbable victory and giving them a 2-1 series lead.

It wasn’t pretty and some may say New York didn’t deserve to come out on top in this game, but a win is a win.

Shesterkin proved that he is the best goaltender in the world while Lafrenière is really emerging into a superstar before our eyes.

No matter what, the Rangers always find a way to win these games and it almost feels that destiny is on their side.

Now, the Rangers have won two consecutive overtime thrillers with all of the momentum on their side going into Game 4 on Tuesday night.
