The New York Rangers pulled it off.
After going up 3-0 on the Carolina Hurricanes, Jack Drury, Jake Guentzel and the ‘Canes roared back with two consecutive wins of their own in Games 4 and 5.
Things looked shaky for Peter LaViolette and the Broadway Blueshirts as they headed to Carolina for Game 6.
Down 3-1 going into the third period, the Rangers stepped up and scored four goals — three coming from veteran Chris Kreider (!) — to secure the win and a trip to the 2024 NHL Eastern Conference Finals.
“He took over the game,” Rangers captain Jacob Trouba said, referring to Kreider’s heroics. “A lot of guys in here call him ‘the Horse,’ and that’s what he is, and he took off in that period and took it over.”
Next up, the Rangers will play the winner of the Boston Bruins-Florida Panthers matchup. As of now, the Panthers hold a 3-2 advantage in the series.
