Fear the Walking Dead showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian B. Goldberg have explained what the future holds for Madison and Alicia as the pair return to Los Angeles. During the series finale, the mother-daughter duo decide to head back to LA, where the series first began. Accompanied by Tracy Otto, the small group decides to go back to the Clark’s original home to help survivors.
Screen Rant spoke with Chambliss and Goldberg about Fear the Walking Dead‘s ending, where the pair explained what’s next for Madison and Alicia in LA. Goldberg explains the many possibilities of who they meet on the road back to California and what they do to try and rebuild once they arrive. Check out what the showrunner had to say below:
Oh, definitely new and exciting. They’re returning to their home, but that home has changed a lot since they were last there. So, they have a lot of rebuilding to do, but I think it’s exciting to think about who they will come across in their journey back to LA. Once they get back to LA, you can just sort of imagine a whole new family being created out of that. That’s what’s exciting about this, and what we hope, that people’s imaginations will run wild for the future possibilities of what might happen to these characters as they go their separate ways because there’s a lot more there. They have a lot still to do.
Could Madison & Alicia Return In Another Walking Dead Spinoff?
Goldberg’s statement indicates there are still plenty of adventures left for the Clark family following their departure from the rest of the group. Since everyone but Victor believes the duo is dead, it’s unlikely the pair will come across any of the friends they left behind. However, their road back to California could see them run into new survivors as they forge ahead to the West Coast.
While Fear the Walking Dead spinoffs aren’t planned as of writing, it appears the series’ showrunners have ideas for how the show could continue following Madison and Alicia’s journey. Much like how The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon shows Daryl’s trek across France, a future series could focus on the small group’s journey to LA. However, it would need to employ fresh ideas into the series, so it wouldn’t feel like a retread of what’s come before.
It’s also possible Fear the Walking Dead can have a crossover with other spinoffs, tying the story more concretely into the main saga. While it’s unclear if Madison or Alicia could return through these means, it’s an option that could take the franchise in a new direction. Although a new series hasn’t been confirmed, it appears Chambliss and Goldberg have ideas for how the Clark’s survival story could continue in the future.
