The Walking Dead boss Scott Gimple responds to the possibility of a crossover involving the zombie franchise’s various spinoffs. Though the main Walking Dead series ended in 2022, the franchise has remained alive and well through a number of spinoffs. In addition to the shows that ran alongside the flagship series, Fear the Walking Dead and World Beyond, AMC has since begun to release additional shows revolving around prominent Walking Dead characters. The latest is The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which premieres on February 25.

Speaking at AMC’s panel during the Television Critics Association press tour, which Screen Rant attended, Gimple admitted he has laid breadcrumbs for possible crossovers between all of the Walking Dead spinoffs. He added, Yeah, I do have dreams of merging this all together.” Check out his full quote below:

So when it comes to something like [a crossover event between the new spinoffs], yeah, I do have dreams of merging this all together, and I have laid little breadcrumbs toward that, but you never know exactly when and how because of a variety of reasons… I will just say, I’m building those pathways, but there could be all sorts of pivots along the way.

How Likely Is A Walking Dead Crossover?

Maggie, Daryl, and Negan from The Walking Dead franchise

2023 saw the debuts of Dead City and Daryl Dixon, two Walking Dead spinoffs picking up in the aftermath of the series finale and expanding the zombie universe. The former show revolves around frenemy duo Maggie (Lauren Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they head into a walker-infested New York City on a mission. The latter focuses on Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) adventure in France, having mysteriously washed up on shore sometime after the Walking Dead ending. Both shows will return for season 2.

The next Walking Dead series to premiere will be The Ones Who Live, which brings back Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) years after they departed the main show. Rick’s return has been a highly anticipated event and at one point was supposed to come in a movie trilogy. As Rick has been away for so long, there is much interest in seeing him reunite with characters such as Daryl, whose final Walking Dead story involved him searching for Rick. That thread alone could form the basis of a crossover between The Ones Who Live and Daryl Dixon.

Beyond that, all of the Walking Dead spinoffs have introduced new elements to the franchise, whether it be never-before-seen walkers or merciless antagonists. Though the remaining characters are all scattered around the globe, arcs in Daryl Dixon season 2 or Dead City season 2 could draw them closer. Gimple is already sowing the seeds for a Walking Dead crossover event, so if AMC wants to continue investing in this franchise, it could very well become a reality in the future.
