Actress Laurie Holden is well known for her roles as Amanda in The Mist, Marita in The X-Files, and for her portrayal of Andrea in The Walking Dead. She and her sister Amy (Emma Bell) met with a group of survivors in the Atlanta area that would eventually be led by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). What happened to this character?
Andrea is a character featured in The Walking Dead comic created by Robert Kirkman. She was a strong and brave woman whose main objective was to protect herself and her younger sister. In the series, she is initially stubborn and very opinionated and would choose to sit on Dale’s (Jeffrey DeMunn) RV as a guard instead of pulling her weight with the chores on Hershel’s (Scott Wilson) farm.
At the end of season 2, when the farm is overrun in the night, Andrea is separated from the others and believed to have been killed by walkers during the chaos. Viewers would see that she escaped and was saved by Michonne, who, beginning in season 3, was portrayed by Danai Gurria. The women formed a close bond as Michonne nursed Andrea while she was sick.
They were reunited with a face from the past in season 3. Merle (Michael Rooker), now in the employ of the Governor (David Morrisey) of Woodbury, survived amputating his hand on the roof in Atlanta, which occurred in season 1.
Andrea would become romantically involved with the Governor, who, on the surface, appeared to be an upstanding guy. His true nature was revealed when he came against Rick, and no amount of reasoning would stop him from destroying him. Andrea, who was constantly interfering, tried to get the men to make an agreement. By this time, the Governor was so unhinged it was pointless for her to attempt this.

In the season 3 finale, “Welcome to the Tombs,” the Governor takes his lackey, Milton (Dallas Roberts), to his torture room where Andrea is restrained in a dental chair. He orders Milton to kill her, but he turns on the Governor, stabbing him. This results in Milton being stabbed several times and the Governor leaves him closed in the room with Andrew, knowing he will turn and then kill Andrea, who is defenseless.
Despite her best efforts to escape, Milton turns and then bites Andrea. She kills him and is found by Rick, Michonne, Daryl (Norman Reedus), Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman), and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green). It is an emotional reunion between Andrea and Michonne, who knows her friend’s fate. Andrea opts to kill herself instead of turning into a walker, and Michonne stays by her side while the others standing outside the room hear the gunshot.
It is sad that Andrea didn’t get her comic story, which cast her in a very different light. She was a badass in the comic who was resourceful and proficient in handling a gun, a talent that was very useful in an undead apocalypse. She became romantically involved with Rick late in the comic story and was a mother figure to Carl. She would die during Beta’s massive walker horde.
