One exciting title on the list stars Steven Yeun, who played Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead.
Showrunner Lee Sung Jin, known for Silicon Valley and Dave, drew on his own experience with road rage as inspiration for the darkly comedic story that is also very moving. Beef, an A24 production, stars Yeun with Ali Wong as the main characters, and both serve as executive producers with Sung Jin and Jake Schreier. This show reunites Yeun and Wong, who both did voice work on Tuca & Bertie.
Beef is a Netflix original dark comedy series that premiered on the streamer in April 2023. The 10-episode season follows an incident of road rage that continues to consume every facet of the lives of Danny (Yeun) and Amy (Wong).
The series was fast-paced, with lots of action, humor, and even a lot of tender moments that will move viewers to tears. Yeun and Wong have been praised for their performances, and the series has been nominated for several awards, including Emmy and Golden Globes.
“Taken as a whole, the 10 episodes of Beef felt satisfyingly complete, but the hunger of the modern television industry – not to mention the eagerness of Netflix to capitalise on a hit – means that we should never say never … But Beef is such a miraculous show, so inventive and daring and propulsive, that the worst thing in the world would be for it to take another grab at the apple and miss. Perfection like this doesn’t happen very often. Let’s keep it perfect.”
