Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 has begun filming in Toronto, as announced on social media by producing director Chris Fisher and co-executive producer and writer Davy Perez. Strange New Worlds season 3 production was originally to start in May but was halted due to the Writer’s Guild strike, and then the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike. But now, the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) is about to jump to warp speed again, with the cast and crew converging in Toronto and cameras rolling.
On Instagram, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds producing director Chris Fisher (@widgetfactoryco) shared an image from “Day 1, Episode 301” of the season 3 premiere’s production. Fisher’s image is a close-up of a console from the Starship Enterprise’s bridge, and it was Liked by cast members Celia Rose Gooding, Christina Chong, Melissa Navia, and Melanie Scrofano. Check it out below:
Chris Fisher’s image of the Enterprise bridge console has Caution tape and a sign that says “Caution Loaded Pyro,” which indicates the Enterprise will come under fire by the Gorn and that section of the bridge will explode. Celia Rose Gooding commented, “that looks familiar!” and this could mean it’s Ensign Nyota Uhura’s communications console that could blow up in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3’s premiere.
Strange New Worlds co-executive producer and writer Davy Perez (@davyperez) also shared an image of his director’s chair from the set, with the caption: “Strange New Worlds Season 3, Day 1 of shooting,,, Time to get back in the chair #startrek”. Perez’s pic was Liked by Bruce Horak, Christina Chong, Melissa Navia, and even Star Trek: Picard season 3’s Todd Stashwick. Since both Chris Fisher and Davy Perez are on set, it could mean they are the respective director and writer of Strange New Worlds’ season 3 premiere.
Star Trek Should Release Strange New Worlds Season 3 In 2 Parts
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is in production, and Paramount+ should release the new episodes ASAP rather than drop them all in 2025.
When Will Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Premiere On Paramount+?
Filming on Strange New Worlds season 3 should last about 6 months,
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is filming 10 season 3 episodes, and production is reportedly set to continue into June 2024. It takes approximately 10 days to film an episode of Strange New Worlds, and the production team’s plan may be to get Strange New Worlds season 3’s premiere in the can before the Christmas and New Year’s holiday break. Season 3’s premiere will resolve Strange New Worlds season 2’s cliffhanger ending where Captain Pike was put in a no-win scenario against the Gorn.
Strange New Worlds season 2 ended with Captain Pike ordered to retreat while members of the USS Enterprise crew were kidnapped by the Gorn and Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano) is dying from a Gorn infection.
In all likelihood, fans won’t get to see Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 until some time in 2025, given the amount of post-production the episodes require, and Paramount+ will also want to properly promote Strange New Worlds season 3. It’s possible that Paramount+ could split Strange New Worlds season 3 in half and release some episodes by the end of 2024, but that is unsubstantiated wishful thinking by eager fans right now. But with Star Trek: Picard now over and Star Trek: Discovery ending with season 5 in 2024, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds becomes the flagship and crown jewel series of Star Trek on Paramount+.
