John Wick: Chapter 4 marked a pivotal moment in the franchise, concluding with Wick’s victorious duel against Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont but at the cost of his own life. In an interview with Screen Rant, producer Basil Iwanyk expressed his appreciation for the way the film concluded, describing it as an elegant way to end the series. Despite the possibility of another movie, the producer hinted at a fresh start, comparing each film to a book in a series. He emphasized that the next John Wick installment, if it comes to fruition, would be an entirely different story, not a direct follow-up to the previous one.
“I think that what I love about the end of John Wick 4 is, if this means that there’s never another John Wick movie, it’s a nice elegant way of ending it, right? If there is another John Wick movie, which I do believe there will be, we don’t know what it is yet, but I do believe. I do feel like it will be a completely other book. If these movies were four chapters, you kind of blame it on the metaphor. The next John Wick will be another book. It won’t be like six months later from John Wick 4.”
While the future of the franchise remains uncertain, the passion and excitement of the cast and crew for the filmmaking process drive their willingness to return, even though making these movies can be exceptionally challenging.
“We just don’t know what that is. But we all love spending time together, and we love the process. The more time that goes by, the more we miss it. As demented as it sounds, and these movies are really hard to pull off, there’s something really exciting about making these movies. And I don’t even mean talking to you, and the box office. I just mean, mounting it, preparing for it, casting for it. It’s fun as sh-t.”
Ballerina Director Gives Promising Update on the John Wick Spinoff’s Development
Ballerina director shares an optimistic status report on the film’s production, despite challenges posed by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
John Wick TV Show in the Works
In the wake of John Wick: Chapter 4‘s success, there is a growing aspiration to expand the action-packed cinematic universe. This expansion includes The Continental, a prequel that delves into the early adventures of a young Winston Scott. Ballerina is another project that is making significant strides in its production. However, director Chad Stahelski has also recently confirmed the ongoing development of a John Wick television series.
During a previous interview, Stahelski shared his enthusiasm for the multitude of creative ideas generated by their group of writers. He stated that he genuinely appreciates each of these concepts and is prepared to tackle any of them.
“Again, if something clicked with me, like, believe me, man, all the ideas that our group of writers are working on now, I swear to you, I like them all. If you told me tomorrow I had to do any one of them, I’d be like, ‘Cool, man. That’s a great way to spend a year.’ They’re all cool ideas, and I have ideas on how I’d execute all of them. That’s what’s so fun about keeping it going. And we’re doing a John Wick TV show, which, again, keeps my head going.”
Working with a different cast and adapting to a new story structure, all while excluding John Wick, presents a challenge that Stahelski looks forward to taking on.
